The Ether-Flex HSIM4 acts as the primary data gateway for the BSR 64000 chassis. While the cable cards (like the 2:8 or TX32 modules) communicate with cable modems in subscribers' homes, the HSIM4 routes that traffic out to the service provider’s IP core network.

It is designed for high availability and flexibility, allowing operators to mix different interface types (Gigabit and Fast Ethernet) on a single card. This flexibility is critical for operators who may have legacy 10/100 management networks but require Gigabit speeds for subscriber data backhaul.

Key Capabilities

Mixed Media Support: Unlike many interface cards that offer only one port type, the HSIM4 provides both high-speed fiber connectivity (via the 2 GbE ports) and copper connectivity (via the 8 Fast Ethernet ports) simultaneously.
Wire-Speed Routing: The module supports hardware-based Layer 3 routing, ensuring that high-volume traffic (VoIP, Video, Data) is forwarded without latency, even when complex Access Control Lists (ACLs) or QoS policies are applied.
